Text Box: BUSINESS PLANNING TIP
Great Business Plans are written by people who really believe in the product or service they are going to offer, but they also need to work to a format that is clean and clear, easy to read and understand.
Firstly, the list of contents, different people want different things from your plan, make it easy for them to find the information they want. Next the Summary, who are you, why have you written the plan, do you want money, if so how much and when, and most importantly what’s in it for the financier, what’s your USP and the highlights of your financial projections, and you have to get it all on one page. Next comes the history, all about you, when you started, what’s happened to date, and how does it impact on the plan. Next, the product or service, all about it but keep it to a page, any more goes into the appendices. Next, Marketing & Sales, who are you going to sell to, and where, and who are the buyers? Next, you and your people, who are they, what are their strengths and weaknesses, and will you deal with them. What about your operations where are you going to work from, who are your suppliers, how will it work each day. Finance, how much will you need, for how long, cash flows and profit and loss forecasts, you need to need to understand the money side of the business. Next, what about the risks and rewards, next the objectives and milestones and finally the appendices. Remember you must make it easy for the reader to yes and for him to tell his boss this is why I said yes. Need some help, email us on plan@rmcl.co.uk
