HOW?  SBP - The process

The SBP structure consists of:

•          Planning - project planning ; writing the proposal

•          Data collection - completing the base data forms; arranging the data in            presentation format; customer survey and preparation of results

•          Building the team - developing the director’s motivation and vision;            understand each other and appraise the strength of the group

•          Data analysis - internal analysis; financial analysis; the 10% rule;            internal business analysis; external analysis; deciding on initial actions

•          Development - company purpose; initial development of the SBP            goals; human resource planning; synthesis of strategic options;            completing the SBP framework; communicating the SBP to all            employees; jointly developing the action programme

•          Evaluation -   assumptions planning; checking the logic flow; first            evaluation against   strategic principles; SBP/resource budget; final            evaluation

•          Implementation - implementation; continuous improvement; the            learning organisation

The process to achieve this includes consultation and workshop sessions.

The objective of the first SBP workshop is to build commitment to the process at the top (the board of directors) and to ensure that they are united in their common beliefs and overall goals for the company.

The objective of the second SBP workshop is to obtain an initial draft strategic framework that covers the company purpose, goals and performance targets. This draft will change, perhaps radically over the following months, but it provides a solid base from which to start the process.
